Heidi Lawton is the managing broker and principal of Lawton Realty Group, Inc., founded by Ms. Lawton in 1989. Lawton Realty Group, Inc. is a private full-service commercial real estate firm which specializes in acquisitions, development, brokerage, and management of investment property with emphasis on retail and multi-family properties. Ms. Lawton began her career building single family homes and now has over twenty-eight years of experience acquiring, developing and managing, and arranging financing for commercial properties. Her areas of expertise include acquisitions of retail portfolios, property development; structuring real estate Investments, condominium conversions and implementing value add strategies. In the last few years, Ms. Lawton has also personally handled and developed properties worth more than $200,000,000.
Ms. Lawton has been licensed as a real estate professional since 1982 and has served as President of the Northern Illinois Commercial Association of REALTORS® (NICAR) in 2009. Additionally, Ms. Lawton was an Independent Director of Inland Real Estate Corporation (IRC), a publicly listed New York Stock Exchange real estate company and served on the board from 1994 until its sale in 2016, where she also served as the chairperson of the compensation committee and as a member of the nominating, corporate governance and audit committees. Ms. Lawton was also an Independent Director of Diversified Real Estate Trust, Inc., a non-traded public REIT formed to acquire and develop commercial assets, from 2010-2014, until the company merged with a publicly traded REIT, and is now also listed on the New York Stock Exchange. She also served on the Board of Directors of the Illinois Association of REALTORS® (IAR) and she is a member of LAMBDA ALPHA INTERNATIONAL.
Ms. Lawton is also familiar with the governance of non-profit organizations, having served on the boards of the Elmhurst Hospital Foundation and New Directions Affordable Housing Corporation.
Ms. Lawton, born and raised in the western suburbs of Chicago obtained her bachelor's degree from National Louis University in business management. Her interests include political science, civic involvement and children’s charities.
